Assistive Technology is:  Any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities.

Our mission at Bay Area Center for Independent Living is to assist individuals with any form of disability, of any age to identify technology and assistive/adaptive devices that can help increase quality of life and keep individuals to stay independent in the community.

We can assist individuals with this mission in three different ways.

  • Loan Program: Devices in our demonstration lab can be loaned to individuals to try out in their homes for up to 3 weeks.
  • Computer Lab and Training: Use of computers and training is available to individuals with disabilities who wish to gain knowledge on using a computer.  Training is also provided on adaptive computer software.
  • Assistive Technology Assessment: Staff assists individuals with a disability and/or their families to determine which device or technology will fit their needs.
